Taps...taps & more taps

Taps are more than just a way to deliver water. Your bathroom taps can be the cornerstone to your bathroom theme and will define the rest of the installations. There are two main types of bathroom taps currently being used, both with a "Bar" style handle. They are lever taps and "Cross" handle taps. Lever taps are defined by a simple, single bar lever, where as a cross tap has a centralised cross knob (see pictures). The bar tap theme has become popular recently, as its modern and simple design theme is easier to follow through the rest of the bathroom. Cross-taps also available in a simplistic modern style but because they come paired set (hot and cold) they may be better suited when trying to achieve a more traditional or colonial look. The Bar tap look can come as separate Hot and Cold taps as with separate spout well as a single "Mixer" tap.

Tap styles are not only made up of the handle style but also the flange that covers that base of the tap installation. Changing the tap's flange can significantly change the whole look and theme of the tapware that will set the style for the rest of the bathroom.

Mixer taps

A Mixer tap is simply a single tap that allows you control both hot and cold flow from a single lever. It includes the spout, all in the one unit. A mixer tap is ideal in high use areas such as showers and basins as they allow you to quickly achieve the flow and temperature you desire. Additionally because there is only one tap, you can make better use of your available space and have only one fixture to clean. The popularity and practicality of mixer taps now finds them in use in the bathroom, kitchen and laundry.

TMV taps

TMV's are the new buzzword in the bathroom industry bringing consumer control to a new level. A "Thermostatically Modulated Valve" (TMV) allows you to dial-in the temperature you like at the tap before turning the tap on. Using a TMV means that regardless of what other taps are being used in the rest of the house, you will always have the water at the temperature you set. A TMV will also help you save water by not wasting shower time trying to set the taps to your temperature preference.
